Why studying Mechanics as Elementary Physics?
The modern Physics represents the basis of the novel technologies. Even the most advanced concepts are built on the template of the fundamental elements of Physics. Major issues in Physics are related to the motion whose study constitutes the main topics of Mechanics. Within its comprehensive and intuitive framework the most relevant and important physical phenomena and physical quantities can be exposed, analyzed and understood: the elements of motion (velocity, acceleration, momentum, angular momentum...), forces, the energiy and the conservation laws, the equilibrium and the dynamics.

These concepts can be introduced and discussed within models of sequentially enhanced complexity: from the point to the rigid body approaches. Beyond, using elements of elasticity theory, the basic of stress and strain relationship can be understood. However, in mechanics, a special class of motion is the periodical motion (the oscillations). Studying the simple harmonic motion, the damped and the forced oscillations one can introduce important main concepts and physical quantities describing general periodical phenomena: e.g. period, frequency, interference, and resonance. These are generally valid for any other periodic or time dependent physical phenomena in nature (from AC current and voltage in electrical circuits to electromagnetic waves, etc.). Furthermore, the study of mechanical waves describing the propagation of oscillations in a medium gives an insight on the energy transport in nature and on other important physical phenomena such as: wave reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference, stationary waves, normal modes, resonance, beats, the Doppler Effect, the Shock Waves. The important weight dedicated to studies of wave phenomena, related physical quantities and conservation laws is motivated by the fact that all their elements remain valid and can be easily extrapolated to any different branches of Physics: Electricity, Magnetism, Electromagnetism, Optics and Atomic and Nuclear Physics.

The physical elements studied in this introductory course should provide the basis for understanding the advanced Physics with ultimate branches the Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Statistics.Furthermore, they constitute the template for the Solid State Physics and Solid State Electronics which represent the physical background for the properties of all the modern electronic devices.
